TSS returns!

Friday 30th July, 2021

Return to rehearsals in September – we are delighted to confirm that choir rehearsals will resume on Monday 6th September at 7.30 pm at Archbishop Benson School. We haven’t all been together since early March 2020 so this will be a very happy reunion and our first chance to work on the piece by Graham Fitkin that we have commissioned to mark the choir’s 40th anniversary.

We would love to welcome some new members to the choir so if you would like to come to our rehearsal on 6th September please contact Sally Hind, our Membership Secretary, by emailing membersthreespires@googlemail. com, and take a look at the “Sing with Us” section of this website for more information. Prospective members are encouraged to attend two or three rehearsals before being invited to audition. We find this helps people to settle into our rehearsal routine and gain confidence by meeting fellow singers.

World premiere of our 40th Anniversary Commission - “Humphry Davy – The Age of Aspiration” by Graham Fitkin, Saturday  20th  November 2021

Four years ago Three Spires Singers decided to mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of the choir by bringing a new work into being, and we are honoured that Cornish composer Graham Fitkin agreed to undertake this commission. Its subject is the life and work of Humphry Davy, by whom Graham has long been fascinated. Davy is best known as a chemist and inventor but Graham’s work reveals much more of his life than this.

We’ll be performing the new work with tenor and counter tenor soloist Rory McCleery who will take the role of Humphry Davy, and the role of narrator will be played by actor Samuel West. We’ll also be joined by Cornwall Girls’ Choir and Cornwall Boys’ Choir as well as our usual large orchestra, with Christopher Gray conducting.

Because of Covid 19 this will be our first concert since November 2019 – we had to cancel the concert scheduled for March 2020 – and what a come-back it promises to be!   The rest of the programme will comprise Poulenc Gloria and Ravel Piano Concerto in G with renowned pianist Cordelia Williams making a welcome return to Truro.
